ISM President Unveils ISM Landmark in CUMT campus

The International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM) was established in 1969, recognized by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a non-governmental organization partner. The 18th International Congress for Mine Surveying and concurrent 50th ISM Presidium Meeting convened in Xuzhou from 27 to 28 October 2023. The ISM Presidium approved the establishment of a coordination division at CUMT. This strategic body will oversee global collaboration initiatives, facilitate technical knowledge sharing, and provide analytical support for organizational decision-making processes.

To commemorate this decision, a landmark has been built in front of the School of Environment and Spatial Informatics at the China University of Mining and Technology. The landmark was sponsored by China Coal Market Network and constructed by Jiangsu Wandefu Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. It was completed on September 10, 2025. On December 8, 2025, Prof. Hendrik Grobler, President of the International Society for Mining Surveying, unveiled the plaque for this landmark. Professor Huang Leting, Vice President of the International Society for Mining Surveying, Bian Zhengfu, Chair of the Commission 1, Prof. Ryszard Hejmanowski, Chair of the Commission 4, Prof. Agnieszka Malinowska, Co-Chair of the Commission 3 and other ISM members attended the unveiling ceremony.
